I infer from the scene at the lunch buffet when I arrived after a very long recount (or possibly count) of the last game to report, that the cajun-style salmon and the pastries were the most popular items on the menu. Yesterday's warning notwithstanding, I had nothing to do with their disappearance.

Starting off the first of five games this afternoon at Board 1 are first-place Nigel Richards (Wru) and third-place Craig Beevers (Eng). At Board 2 are Brett Smitheram (Eng) and Chris May (AUS). At Board 3 are Adam Logan (CAN) and Helen Gipson (Sco).

Orlet Bullock (BRB) is in 21st place, Odette Carmina Rio (PHL) in 30th place and Feargal Weatherhead (IRL) in 31st place. What's special about them? They are each the sole representative of their countries, and currently in the top half of the field. If they remain there at the end of the event, their national allocation will be increased to two players for 2013.

Dielle Saldanha (CAN) had a 622-471 win over Joanne Craig (NZL). Their 1093-point total is the highest so far in the tournament.

Nick Ball's (CAN) 488-489 loss to Thacha Koowirat (THA) is not the highest loss of the event (493), but it is the highest one-point loss. Ouch.
