At the end of the first day, undefeated former World Champion Adam Logan (CAN) leads the field by a game. On 6-1 are the four players Marut Siriwangso (THA), Paul Gallen (NIr), Brett Smitheram (Eng) and Sam Rosin (USA). In sixth place is former World Champion Nigel Richards (Wru), who stopped en route to this event to play Logan for $3,000 at the Toronto Open (Logan won). In seventh place is Stewart Holden (NIr), and rounding out the top ten are Paul Allan (Eng), Chollapat Itthi-Aree (THA) and Geoff Thevenot (USA).

That puts both players from Northern Ireland, and the sole Irish representative all in the top ten, a phenomenal achievement.

Mohammad Sulaiman (ARE) lost to Suzanne Dundas (NLD) in an application of the six scoreless turns rule, -6 to -9. Their game is posted on this website. Both player were aware of the rule, but it's hard to stay focused at the end of a long day's play. All around the room, players lingered, discovering postmortem ways in which they could have won their last games, had they only had more patience and concentration.

The top two tables will begin tomorrow with 1-4/2-3 and 1-3/2-4 pairings. Please stay tuned!
