Dylan Early (ZAF) reports that Michael Akonor (GHA) ended their game in Round 21 with four consecutive bingoes, and Irfan Siddiqui (BHR) began their game this round with two more, putting him at the receiving end of six consecutive bingoes. Pakorn Nemitrmansuk's (THA) winning streak ends at 14 wins, as he runs into Naween Fernando (AUS), losing a close game 473-436. Naween opened with ENVELOp but Pakorn came back a turn later with three consecutive bingoes: SLINGERS, GUANIDIN and MOYITIES. They each lost a turn on phonies (HIKAU and HEXOGAMY), but toward the end Pakorn's rack got clogged with Es and Naween bingoed out with ETALaGE to win. Because of a large number of other upsets though, Naween actually slips from fifth to sixth place in the overall standings, trading places with Komol Panyasophonlert (THA), who beat Helen Gipson (Sco) 520-365. Dave Wiegand (USA) loses 387-480 to Marut Siriwangso (THA) and falls two places below Nigel Richards (Wsc) and David Boys (CAN). At this point, only these top six remain in contention for the finals, though there's still prize money to contend down to tenth place. |
