Back to WSC 2009 Live Coverage WSC 2009 Commentary: Round 14[ ] Go to: Round 1, Round 2, Round 3, Round 4, Round 5, Round 6, Round 7, Round 8, Round 9, Round 10, Round 11, Round 12, Round 13, Round 14, Round 15, Round 16, Round 17, Round 18, Round 19, Round 20, Round 21, Round 22, Round 23, Round 24. Vannitha Balasingam (MYS) scored a 530-point loss against Phillip Edwin-Mugisha's (UGA) 627 this round, and now leads in both the High Loss and High Combined Game Score standings, while Phillip becomes the third player to score over 600 in a game here, surpassing Harshan Lamabadusuriya (Eng) and Suanne Ong's (MYS) efforts in Round 5. (Harshan's 603-346 is still the high spread so far.) Vannitha saved her racks, so I've posted the game with vaguely plausible racks provided for Phillip. Vannitha also holds the current record for six games lost by the least combined spread: 4+8+16+17+23+29 = 97. At the U.S. Nationals, she would be in the running for the so-called Tuff Luck prize. A complimentary prize for winning by the smallest total would currently be shared by Michael Akonor (GHA) and Neil Scott (Sco), each of whom have won six games by 107 points. Allan Simmons (Sco) beat his brother-in-law Phil Appleby (Eng) 499-401. To our knowledge, they are the only players this year who are related. David Boys (CAN) beat Komol Panyasophonlert (THA) 506-392 at Board 1 to retain his one-game lead over Dave Wiegand (USA), who beat Paul Allan (Eng) 434-340. One game behind Wiegand are eight players at 10-4. |
